Schweißfluss, also known as sweat flow, refers to the physiological process of perspiration. It is the secretion of a fluid, primarily water and salts, by sweat glands located in the skin. The primary function of schweißfluss is thermoregulation, helping to cool the body when its temperature rises, particularly during physical activity or in warm environments. As sweat evaporates from the skin's surface, it draws heat away from the body.

There are two main types of sweat glands: eccrine and apocrine. Eccrine glands are found throughout the body and are responsible for the majority of schweißfluss, producing a watery, odorless sweat. Apocrine glands, primarily located in areas like the armpits and groin, produce a thicker, milky sweat that can be broken down by bacteria, leading to body odor.

The rate and amount of schweißfluss are influenced by several factors, including ambient temperature, humidity, physical exertion, emotional state, and certain medical conditions or medications. In hot weather or during intense exercise, the body can produce significant amounts of sweat to maintain a stable internal temperature. Excessive sweating, known as hyperhidrosis, can be a medical concern, while insufficient sweating, or anhidrosis, can impair the body's ability to cool itself.
