Sammaditthi is a Pali term that translates to "right view" or "correct understanding." It is the first factor of the Noble Eightfold Path, a fundamental concept in Buddhism that outlines the way to end suffering and achieve enlightenment. Right view is not simply intellectual knowledge but a deep, insightful understanding of the nature of reality as taught by the Buddha. This includes understanding the Four Noble Truths: the truth of suffering (dukkha), the truth of the origin of suffering (samudaya), the truth of the cessation of suffering (nirodha), and the truth of the path to the cessation of suffering (magga).

Furthermore, right view involves comprehending the principles of karma and rebirth, the impermanent nature of all phenomena (anicca), and the absence of a permanent, unchanging self (anatta). It is the foundation upon which the other aspects of the Noble Eightfold Path are built. Without right view, other efforts towards spiritual development may be misguided or ineffective. It means seeing things as they truly are, free from delusion, greed, and hatred. This understanding naturally leads to right intention, right speech, and the subsequent steps on the path.
