sPLA2IIE
Phospholipase A2, group IIE, also known as sPLA2IIE, is a secreted enzyme encoded by the PLA2G2E gene in humans. This enzyme belongs to the large family of secreted phospholipases A2, which are characterized by their ability to hydrolyze the sn-2 ester bond of phospholipids. Specifically, sPLA2IIE hydrolyzes glycerophospholipids to produce a free fatty acid and a lysophospholipid. The precise physiological roles of sPLA2IIE are still under investigation, but it is thought to be involved in inflammatory processes and lipid metabolism. Its expression has been detected in various tissues, including the liver and skin. Studies have indicated that sPLA2IIE may play a role in conditions such as psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis, suggesting its involvement in immune responses and tissue remodeling. Further research is ongoing to fully elucidate its functions and potential therapeutic applications.
