Röntgendiffraktionsstudien, commonly known as X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies, are experimental techniques used to determine and analyze the arrangement of atoms in crystalline materials by observing patterns produced when X-rays are scattered by a sample. When incident X-rays encounter parallel atomic planes, constructive interference yields diffracted beams at angles that satisfy Bragg's law, nλ = 2d sin θ. Measuring the diffracted intensities as a function of angle allows inference of lattice spacings, unit-cell dimensions, and, with appropriate models, the positions of atoms within the crystal.
