rézmetszetek
Rézmetszetek, also known as copperplate engraving, is an intaglio printmaking technique. This method involves incising an image into a highly polished copper plate. The artist uses a sharp tool called a burin to create lines and areas of depth on the surface of the copper. Once the design is complete, the plate is inked. The ink is carefully wiped away from the surface, leaving it only within the incised lines and grooves. A sheet of damp paper is then placed over the inked plate, and both are passed through a printing press. The immense pressure of the press forces the paper into the incised areas, picking up the ink and transferring the image to the paper. The resulting prints have a characteristic sharp, precise line quality. Rézmetszetek was a dominant printmaking technique from the 15th century onwards, widely used for artistic reproductions, book illustrations, and scientific engravings. Its ability to create fine detail and subtle tonal variations made it highly valued.
