The name is said to derive from stylized Finnish roots, combining a sense of abundance with a mineral suffix, reflecting its imagined geological abundance in the setting.

According to the canonical texts, runsaampiin was first identified by field geologist Arto Kivinen during expeditions to the Nummivuori region in 2147. Subsequent chapters expand its occurrence to several hydrothermally altered terranes in the fictional continent of Valara.

Physical properties are described as pale olive to coppery crystals with a vitreous to resinous luster. Mohs hardness is given around 4.5, density near 3.3 g/cm3, and a layering-driven crystal habit that yields prismatic to tabular crystals. It exhibits a bright red-to-orange fluorescence under ultraviolet light.
