Ruhmkorff Coil

A Ruhmkorff coil is a type of electrical coil invented by Heinrich Ruhmkorff in 1869. It is essentially a Helmholtz coil in which the two parallel-coil solenoids are wound directly on top of one other. The design allows for a high degree of uniformity of magnetic field.

The coil consists of two circular rings of wire that are connected in series to form a single coil. The rings are wound to produce a magnetic field in the center, which is quite uniform. The configuration is equivalent to the series connection of two identical Helmholtz coils.
