Ringåpningen refers to the first mass return of Central European coal miners to the surface following the end of World War II. The event, which took place on the 8th of May 1945, marked a poignant moment in the history of post-war Europe. As Allied forces swept through Germany and Austria, many coal miners from the Donbas region of Eastern Ukraine found themselves cut off from their families and homes, having been relocated to the German territories for labor.
