Ringlusmajandus, also known as the circular economy, is an economic model that aims to eliminate waste and the continual use of resources. It contrasts with the traditional linear economy, which follows a "take-make-dispose" model. In a circular economy, products and materials are kept in use for as long as possible, extracting maximum value from them whilst in use, then recovering and regenerating products and materials at the end of each service life. This involves strategies such as designing for durability, repairability, and recyclability. The core principles of the circular economy include designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems. This model seeks to decouple economic growth from the consumption of finite resources. It encompasses various activities like reuse, repair, refurbishment, remanufacturing, and recycling. The ultimate goal is to create a sustainable economic system that benefits businesses, society, and the environment.
