Rikastusprosessit, or enrichment processes, refer to a range of techniques used to increase the concentration of a desired substance within a mixture. These processes are fundamental in many industries, from mining and metallurgy to food production and chemical engineering. The core principle is to separate the valuable component from less desirable materials, often called gangue or waste.

Different enrichment processes are employed depending on the physical and chemical properties of the substances involved. In mining, physical separation methods like gravity separation, magnetic separation, and flotation are common. Gravity separation utilizes differences in density to separate minerals. Magnetic separation is effective for ferromagnetic materials. Flotation involves altering the surface properties of minerals to make them attach to air bubbles and rise to the surface.

In the nuclear industry, enrichment processes, particularly isotope enrichment, are critical for increasing the concentration of specific isotopes, such as Uranium-235, which is essential for nuclear fuel. Technologies like gaseous diffusion and gas centrifuges are employed for this purpose.
