Rijkssuitkeringen are payments made by the national government to residents, institutions, or other levels of government within the Netherlands. They form a central part of the Dutch welfare state and social security system. Rijkssuitkeringen include a wide range of benefits granted to individuals, such as old-age pensions, survivors’ benefits, disability benefits, unemployment benefits, and various family or child-related allowances. The Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB) handles several universal or long-term benefits, the UWV (Uitvoering Werknemersverzekeringen) administers employment-related benefits, and the Belastingdienst handles tax- and income-related matters. Financing comes from a mix of payroll taxes and social insurance contributions, general taxes, and state budget resources. Transfers to municipalities and other regions are intended to ensure uniform access to essential services and to support local policy objectives.

Rijkssuitkeringen are established by law and reflected in the national budget. They are designed to provide a basic income floor and social protection in various life circumstances and are subject to policy adjustments in response to demographic and economic developments.
