republiikkinen
republiikkinen is a Finnish adjective. It translates to "republican" in English, referring to something related to a republic. A republic is a form of government in which the country is considered a "public matter," not the private concern or property of the rulers. In a republic, supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch. Therefore, republiikkinen can describe political systems, parties, or ideologies that support or are characteristic of a republic. For instance, one might speak of a republiikkinen hallitus (republican government) or a republiikkinen puolue (republican party). The term is used in contrast to monarchist or other non-republican forms of governance.
