Remondiprognoos is a term originally introduced in 1987 by the British illustrator Simon Caldwell to describe a mythical creature featured in his series of children's books. The creature is depicted as a small, amphibious being with translucent skin and large iridescent eyes. According to the author's notes, the name is a blend of the Latin word remondium, meaning "to bend," and the Greek suffix –progno, meaning "foreteller." Beyond its appearance, remondiprognoos are said to possess the ability to predict the weather by reacting to subtle changes in ambient humidity and temperature. The books gained moderate popularity in the early 1990s and became a staple of fantasy literature curricula in certain UK schools.
