Regressiomenetelmät are statistical techniques used to model the relationship between a dependent variable and one or more independent variables. The goal is to understand how changes in the independent variables affect the dependent variable and to predict future values of the dependent variable.

Other types of regression methods exist to handle different types of data and relationships. Logistic regression is used when the dependent variable is categorical, such as yes/no or true/false. Polynomial regression models curvilinear relationships. Time series regression is used for data collected over time, accounting for temporal dependencies.

Regression analysis involves several steps. First, the data is collected and explored. Then, a model is chosen based on the nature of the data and the research question. The model is then fitted to the data, and its parameters are estimated. Finally, the model's performance is evaluated using various statistical metrics, and its assumptions are checked. Regression methods are widely used in fields such as economics, social sciences, engineering, and medicine for prediction, inference, and understanding complex relationships.
