Rahasto-osuuden, often translated as mutual fund unit or fund share, represents a unit of ownership in a mutual fund. When an investor buys shares in a mutual fund, they are essentially purchasing these rahasto-osuudet. The total value of a mutual fund is divided into a specific number of these units, and the price of each unit, known as the net asset value or NAV, fluctuates based on the performance of the underlying assets held by the fund.

The value of a rahasto-osuuden is calculated by dividing the total net asset value of the fund (total assets minus liabilities) by the total number of outstanding fund units. This NAV is typically calculated and published daily after the market closes. Investors buy and sell these units at the prevailing NAV. The number of rahasto-osuudet an investor holds directly corresponds to their proportional ownership of the fund's portfolio.

Different types of mutual funds, such as equity funds, bond funds, or balanced funds, will have rahasto-osuudet whose value is influenced by the performance of the specific asset classes the fund invests in. The performance of a rahasto-osuuden reflects the overall success of the fund manager in growing the value of the fund's investments.
