A radiator is a component of a heating system, typically found in homes and buildings, designed to transfer heat from a heating medium to the surrounding air. The most common type of radiator uses hot water or steam circulated from a boiler. These radiators are usually made of metal, most often cast iron or steel, and have a series of fins or panels to increase their surface area. As the hot fluid flows through the radiator, it heats the metal, which then radiates heat into the room. Convection also plays a significant role, as the air in contact with the radiator is warmed, becomes less dense, and rises, drawing cooler air in to be heated. Electric radiators are another type, using electrical resistance to generate heat directly. These are often used in smaller spaces or as supplementary heating. Radiators are a common and effective way to heat enclosed spaces, contributing to thermal comfort.
