The quote space is limited, and it determines the maximum number of quotes that a participant can centrally manage in the Dutch stock exchange.

The quote space was introduced in 1987 as a means of preventing large market participants from abusing their market power. It was done to ensure fair competition among market participants. The introduction of quote space led to a reduction in the number of quotes in the market, resulting in a more stable and organized market.

However, some market participants criticized the introduction of quote space, arguing that it limited liquidity in the market and made it more difficult for them to execute their trading strategies efficiently. Others argued that the quote space helped to reduce market volatility and improved the overall efficiency of the Dutch stock exchange.

The quote space is managed by the Dutch Central Depository (KLPD), which assigns a certain number of quote positions to each participant based on their trading activity and size of their market share. Participants can also request additional quote space from the KLPD, but this is subject to approval.
