Përkulje is an Albanian word that translates to "bow" or "bend" in English. It can refer to a physical act of bending the body, typically from the waist or knees, as a gesture of respect, greeting, or submission. In many cultures, including those where Albanian is spoken, bowing is a traditional way to show deference to elders, superiors, or at important ceremonies. The depth and duration of the bow can convey varying degrees of respect.

Beyond the physical action, përkulje can also be used metaphorically to describe yielding to a superior force or authority, or to express humility in the face of overwhelming circumstances. For example, one might say they "përkulën" to a difficult situation, meaning they accepted or adapted to it rather than resisting.
