Pyörivälevy, a Finnish term, translates to "rotating disk" or "turntable" in English. It is a device designed to spin a vinyl record at a consistent speed, allowing a stylus to track the groove and reproduce the audio stored within it. The primary function of a pyörivälevy is to provide a stable and accurate playback surface for analog audio recordings.

Modern pyörivälevy systems typically consist of a platter, a motor, a tonearm, and a cartridge. The platter, a heavy disc, is driven by the motor, which ensures a constant rotational velocity, usually measured in revolutions per minute (RPM). Common speeds are 33⅓ RPM for full-length albums and 45 RPM for singles. The tonearm, a pivoted arm, holds the cartridge containing the stylus. As the record spins, the stylus traces the undulating groove, converting physical vibrations into electrical signals. These signals are then amplified and sent to speakers for playback.
