Puolustusministeriö is the Finnish government ministry responsible for national defense policy, civilian–military security, and the administration of defense resources. It provides political leadership for the Finnish Defence Forces and oversees defense planning, armaments procurement, the defense budget, and international defense cooperation, as well as emergency preparedness and civilian resilience.

The ministry is led by the Minister of Defence and supported by a permanent secretary as the top civil servant. It coordinates with the Finnish Defence Forces (the Army, Navy, and Air Force) and with security and intelligence agencies to ensure unified defense planning and crisis response. It works with other ministries on issues such as border security, energy security, and civil protection, and handles foreign and defense policy in international contexts, including bilateral cooperation and multilateral alliances and organizations.
