Ptolylmagnesium refers to an organomagnesium compound derived from toluene. Specifically, it is a Grignard reagent where a magnesium atom is bonded to the tolyl group (a methylphenyl group) and a halogen atom, typically bromine or chloride. The general formula for such a compound is ArMgX, where Ar represents the tolyl group and X is a halogen. For instance, p-tolylmagnesium bromide would have the formula CH3C6H4MgBr.
