Príbuzny is a Slavic designation for bilateral kinship, referring to the maternal and paternal relative of an individual in a system of tracing lineage. In older Slavic cultures, the concept of kinship was based on blood ties but not limited to immediate family relations. This reciprocal understanding encompassed relatives in both straight lines (patrilineal and matrilineal) and two other lines that are collateral (for example, the relatives in the direct line of aunts and uncles from either side of the family).
