Produecció is a term used in certain Romance-language contexts to denote the act of producing goods or services, or the total output of a process. In economics and industry, production refers to the conversion of inputs—labor, capital, energy, and raw materials—into goods and services. It covers both tangible products and intangible outputs such as software, media, or artistic works.

The scope of production spans several sectors. Primary production involves extraction and harvesting (mining, agriculture); secondary production encompasses manufacturing and construction; tertiary production covers services and distribution. In energy and natural resources, production also refers to generation and extraction activities necessary to supply economic activity.

Key concepts include the production function, which expresses output as a function of inputs; capacity and capacity utilization; efficiency; and productivity, including total factor productivity, which measures output relative to all inputs. Economists study economies of scale, scope, and the division of labor as drivers of production performance.

Measurement and management: production is measured by output quantities, revenue, value added, and costs. Managers use planning and scheduling to optimize resource use, reduce waste, and ensure quality. In policy and business, production decisions influence prices, employment, and growth.
