The term *primärsomatosensorisch* refers to the primary somatosensory system, a component of the central nervous system responsible for processing tactile, proprioceptive, and nociceptive (pain) information from the body. This system is crucial for perceiving sensations such as touch, pressure, temperature, vibration, and body position, enabling conscious awareness of the external and internal environment.

The primary somatosensory cortex, located in the postcentral gyrus of the parietal lobe, is the main cortical region involved in this processing. Neurons in this area receive direct input from the thalamus, specifically the ventral posterior nucleus, which relays signals from the spinal cord and brainstem. The somatosensory cortex is organized somatotopically, meaning that different regions correspond to specific parts of the body, forming a sensory homunculus.

Peripheral sensory receptors detect stimuli and transmit signals via afferent nerve fibers to the spinal cord or brainstem. From there, information ascends through ascending pathways, such as the dorsal column-medial lemniscus pathway (for fine touch and proprioception) and the spinothalamic tract (for pain and temperature). These pathways synapse in the thalamus before reaching the primary somatosensory cortex for further processing.

Damage to the primary somatosensory system can result in sensory deficits, such as numbness, reduced tactile discrimination, or altered pain perception. Conditions like stroke, spinal cord injuries, or neurodegenerative diseases may impair this system, leading to functional limitations in daily activities. Research in neuroscience continues to explore the mechanisms underlying somatosensory processing, including plasticity and recovery following injury.
