Primaariväriä refers to the concept of primary colors in Finnish. Primary colors are a set of colors that can be mixed together to create a range of other colors. However, what constitutes a primary color depends on the context of the color model being used.

In subtractive color models, such as those used in printing and pigment mixing, the traditional primary colors are red, yellow, and blue (RYB). When these colors are mixed, they produce secondary colors like orange (red + yellow), green (yellow + blue), and purple (blue + red). Mixing all three subtractive primaries in equal proportions theoretically results in black. Modern printing, however, often uses a cyan, magenta, and yellow (CMY) model, which is more efficient for producing a wider gamut of colors.

In additive color models, used for light, such as on computer screens and televisions, the primary colors are red, green, and blue (RGB). When these colored lights are combined, they create secondary colors like yellow (red + green), cyan (green + blue), and magenta (blue + red). Mixing all three additive primaries in equal proportions at full intensity results in white light. Understanding these different sets of primary colors is fundamental to comprehending how color is perceived and reproduced in various media.
