Praesent is a term that appears in linguistic and historical contexts rather than as a common English or Latin dictionary headword. In classical Latin grammar, the standard present indicative third-person plural of the verb praestare is praestant; the form praesent is not listed in canonical conjugation tables. Some medieval manuscripts and scholastic notes contain instances that resemble praesent, which scholars often treat as scribal variants or orthographic simplifications rather than a separate verb form.

Because Latin orthography varied and scribes sometimes used ligatures or abbreviated forms, praesent can appear in later texts as a nonstandard form. In linguistic discussions, praesent is sometimes discussed as an example of how epigraphic and manuscript practices can affect apparent verb forms, prompting careful textual criticism to determine whether it reflects a genuine morphological form or a copyist's error.
