PolyDADMAC is a water-soluble polymer, chemically known as poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride). It is a cationic polyelectrolyte with a high charge density. Its chemical structure features a quaternary ammonium group in every repeating unit along the polymer backbone. This positive charge allows it to interact strongly with negatively charged particles and molecules.

PolyDADMAC is primarily used as a coagulant and flocculant in water treatment processes. In municipal and industrial water purification, it effectively neutralizes the negative surface charges of suspended colloidal particles, such as clay, silt, and organic matter. This charge neutralization destabilizes the colloids, allowing them to aggregate into larger flocs. These flocs are then more easily removed through sedimentation or filtration. It is also employed in the paper industry as a retention aid and drainage promoter, improving the efficiency of papermaking. Additionally, polyDADMAC finds applications in the textile industry, in the production of cosmetics, and as an antistatic agent. It is generally supplied as an aqueous solution.
