Polarizációjára refers to the polarization of something, typically used in physics and optics. Polarization describes the orientation of the oscillations of a transverse wave, most commonly light. Light waves are electromagnetic waves and consist of oscillating electric and magnetic fields that are perpendicular to the direction of propagation. If these oscillations are confined to a single plane, the light is said to be polarized. Unpolarized light, on the other hand, has oscillations in all possible planes perpendicular to the direction of travel.

There are several ways to achieve polarization. One common method is through absorption, where a polarizing filter allows oscillations in one direction to pass while blocking those in others. Reflection can also cause polarization; light reflected off a non-metallic surface, like water or glass, is often partially or completely polarized parallel to the surface. Scattering of light, such as by the atmosphere, also results in polarization. The phenomenon of polarization is important in various applications, including sunglasses that reduce glare, liquid crystal displays (LCDs) used in screens, and in scientific instruments for analyzing materials.
