Polariseerib is a term that describes the process by which light waves become oriented in a specific direction. Unpolarized light, such as that from the sun or a typical light bulb, vibrates in all directions perpendicular to its direction of travel. When this light encounters a polarizing filter, only the light waves vibrating in a specific plane are allowed to pass through. This phenomenon is known as polarization.

There are several ways to polarize light. One common method is through the use of polarizing filters, which are materials that selectively absorb or reflect light waves based on their orientation. Another method is by reflection. When light reflects off a non-metallic surface, such as water or glass, it becomes partially or fully polarized. The degree of polarization depends on the angle of incidence. Scattering also polarizes light; for instance, sunlight scattered by air molecules in the atmosphere becomes polarized, which is why the sky appears polarized.

Polarization has numerous practical applications. Polarized sunglasses reduce glare by filtering out horizontally polarized light reflected from surfaces like roads and water. In photography, polarizing filters can enhance contrast and reduce reflections. Liquid crystal displays (LCDs) used in televisions and computer monitors rely on polarization to control the passage of light and create images. Polarized light is also used in scientific research, such as in microscopy and spectroscopy, to study the properties of materials.
