Pohjaavaa is a constructed language developed for use in a fictional setting and documented by language hobbyists and writers since the 2010s. It was designed to be approachable for beginners and flexible for world-building, with a focus on clear phonology and regular grammar.

The name Pohjaavaa is constructed from Finnic-inspired roots intended to evoke a sense of grounding and openness. In the fictional world where Pohjaavaa is spoken, it is described as a community language that emerged from trade and storytelling, rather than from a single creator.

Pohjaavaa uses five vowels (a, e, i, o, u), with long vowels marked by vowel length in some texts. Consonants include p, t, k, m, n, s, l, r, h, v, j. The language uses a Latin-based alphabet; stress falls on the penultimate syllable in most words. Syllable structure is typically (C)(C)V(C).

Pohjaavaa is largely analytic with minimal inflection. Nouns form plurals with the suffix -t and use postpositions rather than prepositions. Adjectives follow the noun they modify. The basic word order is subject–verb–object. Verbs do not conjugate for person or number; tense and aspect are indicated by separate particles before the verb, such as nyt for present and jo for completed actions.
