Photonized is a rarely used adjective formed from photon. It does not denote a single standard process in established literature, but is sometimes employed in nontechnical writing to describe something that has been acted upon by photons or that involves photons in some way, such as after exposure to light.

In scientific contexts, description tends to be more precise: materials may undergo photon-induced changes in optical properties, a process more commonly termed photoinduced modification, photochemical reaction, or photoconversion. A surface or device might be described informally as photonized if it has been irradiated and its response altered.

A related sense is that a molecule or system is photon-excited, meaning it has absorbed photons and resides in an excited electronic state; historically such states are described as excited, not photonized.

In speculative or popular writing, photonized could be used to describe hypothetical states where entities are composed of photons or can emit light on demand, but such usage is not standard.

Because the term lacks precise definition in science, it is advisable to use established terms such as photonic, photoexcited, photochemical, or photoluminescent depending on the intended meaning.
