The synthesis of phenylthiol can be achieved through various methods, including the reduction of benzenesulfonyl chloride or the reaction of benzenediazonium chloride with potassium ethyl xanthate followed by hydrolysis. Its reactivity is largely due to the sulfur atom, which can participate in nucleophilic substitution and oxidation reactions.
