Perusopintoista is a Finnish term used primarily in higher education to describe the basic studies within a degree program. The corresponding noun, perusopinto (basic study), refers to the introductory and foundational courses that provide a broad grounding for later specialization. In degree structures at universities and universities of applied sciences, perusopintoja (the basic studies) or perusopinnot constitute a defined portion of the total study load, typically measured in ECTS credits. The exact content and credit weight of perusopintoja vary by field and institution but commonly include introductory courses in the discipline, language studies, mathematics or statistics, information literacy, and study skills.
