Perintöverovelvollisuus refers to the legal obligation to pay inheritance tax in Finland. This tax is levied on the value of assets inherited by an individual. The tax liability arises upon the death of the testator, and the heirs are responsible for declaring the inheritance and paying the tax.

The amount of inheritance tax is determined by the value of the inherited assets and the relationship between the heir and the deceased. Finnish inheritance tax law divides heirs into two classes based on this relationship. Class I heirs include spouses, direct descendants, and adoptive parents and children. Class II heirs include all other relatives and unrelated individuals. The tax rates are progressive, meaning higher values of inheritance are taxed at higher rates.
