pentlandiitit
Pentlandiite is a sulfide mineral with the chemical formula (Fe, Ni)9S8. It is the primary ore mineral of nickel and is also a source of cobalt, platinum, and palladium. Pentlandiite is typically found in mafic and ultramafic intrusive igneous rocks, such as gabbro and peridotite. It often occurs as exsolution lamellae or intergrowths with other sulfide minerals, particularly pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite.
The mineral was first described in 1865 and named after the Scottish geologist and mineralogist Joseph Barclay
The formation of pentlandiite is often associated with magmatic processes where sulfide melts separate from silicate
