Partvédrétegek, also known as river terraces, are stepped landforms that develop along riverbanks due to fluvial processes. These terraces form when a river erodes its valley floor and banks, creating a series of flat or gently sloping surfaces at different elevations relative to the current river level. The formation involves both downcutting (vertical erosion) and lateral migration of the river channel, which deposits sediment on the valley sides during periods of slower flow or lower discharge. Over time, these deposits become exposed as distinct terraces when the river shifts its course. Partvédrétegek can be classified into different types, such as erosional terraces (formed mainly by erosion) and depositional terraces (formed by sediment accumulation).
