parlementarzysta

A parlementarzysta is a Polish term referring to a member of parliament. In Poland, the parliament is bicameral, consisting of the Sejm (the lower house) and the Senat (the upper house). Therefore, a parlementarzysta can be a deputy in the Sejm or a senator in the Senat.

Deputies in the Sejm are elected for four-year terms through a system of proportional representation in multi-member constituencies. They are responsible for enacting laws, approving the government budget, and holding the government accountable. The Sejm has 460 deputies.

Senators in the Senat are elected for four-year terms in single-member constituencies. The Senat has 100 senators. Its role is primarily to review legislation passed by the Sejm and to propose amendments. While the Senat can delay or amend bills, the Sejm has the final say and can override the Senat's objections.

The term parlementarzysta encompasses individuals who are elected representatives of the people and serve in either chamber of the Polish parliament. Their primary duties involve legislative work, representing their constituents' interests, and participating in the governance of Poland.
