Paritásinformációként refers to the use of parity bits or parity checks as a form of error detection in digital communication and data storage. A parity bit is an extra bit added to a binary string to ensure that the total number of 1s in the string is either even or odd, depending on the parity scheme used.

There are two main types of parity: even parity and odd parity. In an even parity system, the parity bit is set to 0 if the number of 1s in the data is already even, and to 1 if the number of 1s is odd, thus making the total count of 1s even. Conversely, in an odd parity system, the parity bit is set to 1 if the number of 1s is even, and to 0 if the number of 1s is odd, ensuring an odd total count of 1s.

When data is transmitted or stored, the sender or system calculates the parity bit based on the data. The data along with the parity bit is then transmitted. The receiver or retrieval system recalculates the parity bit based on the received data. If the recalculated parity bit matches the received parity bit, it is assumed that the data was transmitted or stored without error. If they do not match, it indicates that an error has occurred during transmission or storage.

While simple and efficient for detecting single-bit errors, parity checks are not capable of detecting all types of errors, particularly those involving multiple bit flips within the data. More robust error detection and correction codes are used for applications requiring higher reliability.
