Paralleelühendus is an Estonian term referring to a parallel electrical circuit. In a parallel circuit, components are connected across each other, meaning they share the same voltage. This is in contrast to a series circuit where components are connected end-to-end, and the current flows through each component sequentially.

The primary characteristic of a parallel circuit is that the voltage across each component connected in parallel is identical. However, the total current flowing into the parallel combination splits and flows through each branch. The amount of current through each branch depends on the resistance of that particular branch, following Ohm's Law (I = V/R). A higher resistance in a branch will result in a lower current flow through that branch, and vice versa, given the same voltage.

If one component in a parallel circuit fails (e.g., a light bulb burns out), the circuit typically remains complete for the other components. This is because the current can still flow through the other parallel branches. This makes parallel circuits highly reliable for many applications, such as household wiring where turning off one appliance does not affect others.

The total resistance of a parallel circuit is always less than the smallest individual resistance in the circuit.
