pHverdien, or pH value, is a numerical scale used to quantify the acidity or basicity of a solution. The scale ranges from 0 to 14, with 7 considered neutral. Values below 7 indicate acidic solutions, while values above 7 denote basic (alkaline) solutions. The pH scale is logarithmic, meaning each unit change represents a ten‑fold difference in hydrogen ion activity (H⁺). For example, a solution with a pH of 3 contains ten times as many hydrogen ions as one with a pH of 4.
