Päikeseloojangul, also known as sunset, refers to the daily disappearance of the Sun below the western horizon. This phenomenon occurs as the Earth rotates on its axis, causing the Sun's apparent position in the sky to descend. The visual spectacle of a sunset is often characterized by a range of colors, from warm yellows and oranges to vibrant reds and pinks.

These colors are a result of atmospheric scattering. As sunlight travels through the Earth's atmosphere, shorter wavelengths of light, such as blue and violet, are scattered more effectively by air molecules. When the Sun is low on the horizon, its light must pass through a greater portion of the atmosphere. This increased path length means that more of the shorter wavelengths are scattered away, allowing the longer wavelengths, like red and orange, to reach our eyes. Dust particles and other aerosols in the atmosphere can also enhance the intensity and variety of sunset colors.
