Ortorombikus is a term derived from Greek, meaning "straight" or "upright" (orthos) and "shape" or "form" (rhombos). In mathematics and crystallography, it refers to a specific type of crystal system or geometric shape.

In crystallography, the orthorhombic crystal system is characterized by three unequal axes that are mutually perpendicular. This means that the lengths of the axes, usually denoted as a, b, and c, are all different (a ≠ b ≠ c), and the angles between them are all 90 degrees. Crystals belonging to this system include minerals like barite and sulfur. The symmetry of orthorhombic crystals is lower than that of tetragonal or cubic systems.

Geometrically, an orthorhombic prism is a prism whose bases are rectangles. A special case of an orthorhombic prism is a rectangular parallelepiped, commonly known as a cuboid or rectangular box, where all faces are rectangles. The term can also be used to describe a plane figure with four sides, where adjacent sides are perpendicular and opposite sides are equal in length, which is essentially a rectangle.
