Opiskeluaika is a Finnish term that refers to the period during which a person studies at an educational institution. It covers the time spent pursuing degrees, completing courses and exams, as well as related breaks or interruptions. In higher education, opiskeluaika commonly denotes the duration allocated to complete a degree. Standard durations in Finland are around three years for a bachelor's degree (usually 180 ECTS) and about two years for a master's degree (usually 120 ECTS). Some programs and degrees, such as combined bachelor’s and master’s studies, extend over five years or more. The actual time a student spends studying can vary due to internships, part-time study, transfers, or personal leaves, and extensions may be allowed under certain circumstances.
