Omillarining is a term that refers to the process of a star running out of fuel. Stars generate energy through nuclear fusion, primarily converting hydrogen into helium in their core. This process releases a tremendous amount of energy, which counteracts the inward pull of gravity, keeping the star stable. Over vast timescales, a star will consume the hydrogen in its core. Once the hydrogen is depleted, fusion in the core ceases.

The core then begins to contract under gravity, becoming hotter and denser. This increased temperature and pressure can ignite hydrogen fusion in a shell surrounding the core. This shell burning causes the star's outer layers to expand significantly, and the star cools down, appearing redder. This stage is known as a red giant phase for stars like our Sun. For more massive stars, the process is more complex, involving the fusion of heavier elements like helium, carbon, and oxygen.

Eventually, all possible fusion processes within the star's core will exhaust their fuel. The subsequent evolution of the star depends heavily on its initial mass. Smaller stars like our Sun will shed their outer layers, forming a planetary nebula, and leave behind a dense core called a white dwarf. More massive stars will end their lives in spectacular supernova explosions, leaving behind either a neutron star or a black hole.
