Omavastutus, commonly referred to as omavastuu, is the portion of health care costs that a patient must pay themselves. It represents the out-of-pocket share of expenses for services, medicines, and other eligible costs that are not fully covered by public or private insurance.

Scope and application: In Finland and many welfare systems, omavastuu applies to visits to health care professionals, hospital services, and prescribed medicines.
