Ofloksasiini is a synthetic chemotherapeutic antibiotic of the fluoroquinolone class. It is a broad-spectrum agent that exhibits activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Ofloksasiini works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This inhibition leads to DNA strand breaks and ultimately bacterial cell death.
