Oekávaný is a non-diacritic representation of a Central European adjective that corresponds to the Slovak očakávaný (and the Czech ocekávaný) and means “expected” or “anticipated.” It is formed from the verb meaning to expect and is used to describe something that is foreseen or hoped for.

In Slovak, the word participates in standard adjective agreement: masculine singular očakávaný, feminine očakávaná, neuter očakávané; in plural forms it changes to appropriately match the noun. The same root appears in the verb očakávať, meaning to expect. In Czech, the corresponding form is očekávaný. When diacritics are omitted, these words can appear as ocakavany or oekavaný, which may lead to ambiguity in ASCII-only text.
