Nyirokkeringési, often translated as lymphatic circulation or lymph flow, refers to the movement of lymph throughout the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is a network of vessels, nodes, and organs that plays a crucial role in fluid balance, immune defense, and fat absorption. Unlike the circulatory system which has a pump (the heart), the lymphatic system relies on a combination of factors to move lymph.

The primary driver of lymph movement is the contraction of surrounding skeletal muscles. As these muscles contract and relax, they squeeze the lymphatic vessels, pushing the lymph forward. Breathing also contributes significantly to lymph flow, particularly the rhythmic expansion and contraction of the chest cavity during respiration. Gentle movements, massage, and even the pulsing of nearby arteries can also aid in propelling lymph. The lymphatic vessels themselves contain one-way valves that prevent backflow, ensuring unidirectional movement towards the heart.

Lymph is a clear to yellowish fluid derived from interstitial fluid, which bathes the cells of the body. This fluid enters the lymphatic capillaries, becoming lymph. The lymph then travels through progressively larger lymphatic vessels, passing through lymph nodes where it is filtered and immune cells can survey for pathogens. Eventually, the lymph returns to the bloodstream via the thoracic duct and the right lymphatic duct, which empty into the subclavian veins near the collarbone. Maintaining healthy lymphatic circulation is vital for overall health, supporting immune function and preventing fluid accumulation and swelling.
