Nukleinsavösszetételének refers to the chemical composition of nucleic acids. Nucleic acids, namely deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA), are vital macromolecules essential for all known forms of life. Their fundamental building blocks are nucleotides. Each nucleotide consists of three components: a nitrogenous base, a five-carbon sugar (pentose), and at least one phosphate group.

The nitrogenous bases found in nucleic acids are adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C), thymine (T), and uracil (U). DNA contains adenine, guanine, cytosine, and thymine, while RNA contains adenine, guanine, cytosine, and uracil. Adenine and guanine are purines, characterized by a double-ring structure, whereas cytosine, thymine, and uracil are pyrimidines, with a single-ring structure.

The five-carbon sugar in DNA is deoxyribose, which lacks an oxygen atom at the 2' carbon position. In RNA, the sugar is ribose, which has a hydroxyl group at the 2' carbon. The phosphate group links the sugar molecules together, forming a phosphodiester backbone. This backbone provides structural integrity to the nucleic acid strand.

The sequence of these nitrogenous bases along the nucleic acid chain encodes genetic information. In DNA, this information dictates the synthesis of proteins and other cellular functions. RNA plays diverse roles, including acting as a messenger carrying genetic code from DNA to ribosomes, facilitating protein synthesis (transfer RNA and ribosomal RNA), and regulating gene expression. The specific order and types of nucleotides are what define the unique properties and functions of different nucleic acids.
