Nonossified refers to a state where bone tissue has not yet formed or calcified. This term is most commonly encountered in the context of skeletal development and ossification, the biological process by which bone tissue is formed. In developing organisms, such as fetuses and young children, many bones begin as cartilage, which is gradually replaced by bone. Areas that have not yet undergone this replacement are considered nonossified.
